Saturday was a night of lopsided victories against several Florida college football programs. No. 8 Florida State cruised to a 54-6 victory over Bethune-Cookman. No. 7 Louisville routed Florida International, 72-0. And No. 4 Ohio State defeated FAMU, 76-0.

But FAMU’s Earl Holmes and the other losing coaches still kept their heads high.

“It is always worth it,” Holmes said of decision to play a top five team. “We have some guys on our team, with aspirations of playing on Sundays and it is important for them to play in this type of atmosphere. It also makes us come together as a team because out of the 100,000 people in the stadium the only ones cheering for you are your teammates.”

The other mismatches across the country included No. 1 Alabama’s 31-6 win over Colorado State, No. 16 Miami’s 77-7 win over Savannah State, No. 17 Washington’s 56-0 win over Idaho State, and No. 20 Baylor’s 70-7 win over Louisiana-Monroe.
