The Florida Lottery and FAMU kicked-off the fall semester by
honoring Bright Futures scholarship recipients at a celebration attended by
Lottery Secretary
Cynthia O’Connell and FAMU Provost and Vice President of
Academic Affairs
Rodner Wright. Students enjoyed ice cream donated
by Florida Lottery corporate retailer, Winn-Dixie.
O’Connell and Wright had the opportunity to visit with
students one-on-one to discuss their academic goals and future plans in a
casual atmosphere with other university faculty and Lottery staff.
“Since the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program began
in 1997, more than 18,000 Bright Futures scholarships have been awarded to
students attending FAMU,” O’Connell said. “These students illustrate how
Florida Lottery contributions are influencing education experiences for
students in the state of Florida. It is inspiring to meet these young people
and see them achieving their academic goals.”
Recognized as one of the most efficient lotteries in the
nation, the Florida Lottery has remained a strong partner in helping generate
additional funds for public education for the past 25 years. Lottery
contributions have made an impact with more than $1 billion being transferred
annually to the EETF for the past eleven consecutive years. Florida Lottery
contributions represent approximately six percent of the state's total
education budget.
