The Lady Rattlers mounted a run in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship that put them in position to unseat the University of Maryland Eastern Seaboard (UMES), the defending champion. But a tiebreaker frame gave the Lady Hawks the opportunity to prevail with their seventh MEAC Bowling title.

The Lady Rattlers fought from the loser’s bracket to win the opportunity to face the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies, shutting them out 4-0, to earn the bid to play for the title.

With UMES sitting in the winner’s bracket, FAMU had a tall order to defeat the Hawks twice consecutively to win the championship.  They took care of the first game, defeating UMES 4-3, after falling behind 3-1.  With games of 191-183, 211-165 and 205-181 the Rattlers set up a winner-take-all showdown for the MEAC crown.

In the championship match, it was a wide open contest.  FAMU opened the deciding best-of-seven series with 160-149 and 210-152 wins. UMES bounced back with 170-153 and 218-198 victories to even the match at 2. FAMU won game five and UMES took game six, setting up the deciding seventh game.

The Lady Rattlers would have their toughest showing of the championship match with just a 130 pinfall, while UMES scored 182.  It was valiant effort for the number six seeded Lady Rattlers to challenge the defending champions, but the effort fell just short.

Second-year Head Coach Karen Brown guided FAMU to this successful season and run in the championship.  Attention now turns to the offseason, as she tries to recruit and reload for another run next season.

For her performance at the MEAC bowling tournament, senior Katherine Jones (Miami, Fla.) was named to the MEAC All-Tournament team.
