Pam Oliver, sideline reporter for FOX NFL Sport and 60
Minutes Sports contributor, delivered the 2015 Summer Commencement address
yesterday to a near capacity crowd at the Alfred Lawson Teaching Gymnasium and Multipurpose Center.
“Today is not the end of your relationship with FAMU, but
just the beginning. FAMU is here for you. When you are at your height or when
you face difficulties, know that you have a Rattler nation that will always support
you,” Oliver told the graduates.
On Friday, the FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communication
treated Oliver to a surprise by announcing that it had named a production hall
in in her honor. The suite of studios on the first floor of the SJGC is
connected by the hall and touches all aspects of broadcast journalism. Dean
Ann
Kimbrough unveiled the new name of the hall that morning to the total surprise
of Oliver, an alumna of the journalism program.
Oliver was also an All-American middle distance runner for
the Rattlers in the early 1980s under legendary track Coach Bobby Lang. She was
stellar as an individual runner in the 400m run, holding FAMU’s record for
several years after she left school.
