Florida A&M University retained the top spot as the #1 public HBCU in the 2018 U.S. News & World Report ranking of historically Black colleges or University (HBCU), released yesterday.  FAMU also moved up one spot to No.6 of the 80 HBCUs considered for the “Best Colleges”

FAMU also was ranked up the nation's top tier best "National Universities" for the first time, coming in at No. 207. More than 1,660 four-year colleges and universities were surveyed to determine the rankings.

“Our new rankings are indicative of the hard work and dedication of our students, faculty, staff and alumni,” said Interim President Larry Robinson. “Today’s announcement is further evidence of our success in achieving our goal to provide the nation’s best educational experience for our students.”

In addition, the University appears on the U.S. News & World Report list for the top overall 132 public schools in the nation (No. 113) and top 205 engineering programs with doctoral degrees.

The University was also listed among the top 254 colleges in the nation ranked by high school counselors (No. 177).

Ranking metrics include peer assessment score, high school counselor assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, class size, student-faculty ratio, freshman in the top 10 percent of their class, SAT/ACT scores, acceptance rate, financial resources, and alumni giving rate.

The data for the 2018 “Best Colleges” rankings were gathered in spring and summer 2017.
