“I spoke briefly about what it takes to become a lawyer, then engaged the students in an abbreviated mock trial,” said FAMU Professor of Law Eurilynne Williams. “Students served on teams presenting arguments for the prosecution and the defense, and representing the jury and the appellate court.”
Each November, in celebration of American Education Week, the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools brings business and civic leaders into the classrooms – in a fun and engaging way — to talk with students about academics, careers and the future.Career professionals from across the county visited schools to participate in TEACH-IN.
“I explained what attorneys do, the role they play in others lives, and how to become an attorney,” said FAMU Professor of Law Marlese Wells. “I also had them color pictures of notable attorneys such as Barack Obama, Abraham Lincoln, Michelle Obama, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Sonia Sotomayor. I enjoyed working with the children and I could tell they were excited to learn.”
