Scott appoints Nicole Washington to BOG

Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Florida A&M University Trustee Nicole Washington to the Florida Board of Governors.

Washington, 36, of Miami Beach, is an education consultant. She has more than 10 years of experience teaching, performing educational research and advocating for educational policy. In Florida, Washington has served as the Associate Director of Governmental Relations for the State University System Board of Governors, as well as the Budget Director for Education in the Governor’s Office of Policy and Budget (OPB). She received her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and her master’s degrees from both Mercy College and Columbia University. Washington succeeds Fernando Valverde and is appointed for a term beginning January 7, 2019 and ending January 6, 2026.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
