Florida governors have launched their inaugural festivities at Florida A&M University for more than 30 years.

Yesterday, Governor-elect Ron DeSantis and Lt. Governor Jeanette Nuñez were welcomed to the Alfred “Al” Lawson Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium for a prayer breakfast on the theme “Working Together in Faith.”

FAMU President Larry Robinson opened the event with greetings to the new executive leadership of the state.

“On behalf of Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, I would like to welcome all of you to the 2019 Governor’s Inaugural Prayer Breakfast,” Robinson said. As president of Florida A&M University, I’m extremely honored that our campus was once again chosen to continue this very important tradition.”

U.S. Rep. Al Lawson, a FAMU alumnus and the namesake of the center, was also in attendance on the dais of hosting officials.

The FAMU Gospel Choir performed at the event. Darien Bolden, a FAMU music education major and choir assistant director, also sang the National Anthem.
