The Florida A&M University President’s Tour recently made a stop in Jacksonville to recruit students. In front of a full auditorium on the Florida State College at Jacksonville – Kent campus, the FAMU Connection, the Royal Court and President Larry Robinson urged students to apply to the only public historically black university in Florida.

FAMU Board of Trustees Chairman Kelvin Lawson welcomed the full house.

Angela Freeman, president of the Jacksonville alumni chapter, brought greetings on behalf of the J.R.E. Lee Chapter.

FSCJ Provost John Wall urged the students to go to college. He reminded the group that “FAMU is a world renowned University and whatever path gets you there, I want you to get there.”

Miss FAMU Imani Cooper and Mr. FAMU Myles Millsap welcomed the crowd, telling them why Rattlers love the university so much.

FAMU Alumni Affairs Executive Director Carmen Cummings thanked the alumni for rolling out the “orange” carpet.

The FAMU Connection wowed the crowd and brought them to a rousing ovation. A sea of mobile phones captured the Connection’s performance, which concluded by singing FAMU’s Alma Mater.

Robinson closed out the evening by reminding the student that FAMU can help them get wherever they want to go.

Florida State College at Jacksonville is one of the partners in FAMU’s IGNITE transfer program. In partnership with Florida College Systems (FCS) schools and community colleges, the program offers an alternative option for students to earn their degree after completing their associate’s degree. The 2+2 system (two years at community college, two years at the University) helps students to reduce the overall cost of attending a four-year university, in addition to reducing debt by offering scholarship programs and helping to eliminate excess credit hours.
