FAMU Trustee Mathew Carter, today, resigned from the FAMU Board of Trustees.  Carter was originally appointed to the FAMU Board in 2010 by former Governor and reappointed in 2016.

Carter previously served as Chair of the trustees Academic Affairs committee.  He holds both bachelors and law degrees from Florida State University, as well as masters of divinity from Smith Chapel College, a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Christian Ministry from Gulf Coast College & Seminary.

A former chair of the Florida Public Service Commission, he has had two children to graduate from FAMU.  Carter's resignation is effective immediately.

His departure leaves two vacancies on the FAMU Board.  Ret. Air Force General Gary McCoy resigned from the Board in August 2017.  His seat has yet to be filled.

Since being sworn in as Governor Ron DeSantis has yet to make any appointments to the FAMU BoT since being sworn in January.
