The FAMU College of Education (COE) recently launched a clinical partnership with the FAMU Developmental Research School (DRS).
The partnership calls for COE students enrolled in Introduction to Education course to complete their internship requirements at DRS. Through the partnership, COE students will attend class on the DRS campus and participate in hands-on activities—including observation and teaching strategies—to ensure their future success as educators.
Rufus Ellis, Ph.D., said the new model is more rewarding and impactful than in the past. "It is aligned to the program's purpose and intent by adding more value to the experience," he said.
This semester more than 25 pre-major education students will travel to FAMU DRS and have class in a dedicated space. In the Spring, College of Education Dean Allyson Watson, Ph.D., also plans to launch the first ever College of Education Teacher Academy on the DRS campus.
"It is imperative that clinical practice, experiential learning and research go hand-in-hand," said Watson.
