The FAMU Rattlers (4-1, 2-0 MEAC) face a daunting road game tomorrow against MEAC foe South Carolina State (3-1, 1-0 MEAC) in Orangeburg, SC.
The Bulldogs own a 14-game winning streak against the Rattlers. FAMU has only notched one win in Orangeburg, SC this decade (2011), and only three times in SC in the past 24 years (1995, 1997,2011).
Against this back drop, the Rattlers are ranked No. 4 in Black College football while the Bulldogs are ranked No. 5.
Adding to the build-up, the Rattlers lead the MEAC in pass offense with 296 yards per outing, while the Bulldogs sit atop the conference in pass defense surrendering only 174.2 yards per game and have allowed only five passing touchdowns all season.
And, a win Saturday would make Bulldogs head coach Buddy Pough the program's all-time winningest coach.
"We're excited to be 2-0 in conference play," head coach Willie Simmons said. "There's a lot of momentum heading into this week's game against a tough South Carolina State team. We have to mentally prepare to go against a team that's had FAMU's number since coach (Oliver) 'Buddy' Pugh's been there."
Kickoff against the Bulldogs is set for 2 p.m. at Oliver C. Dawson Bulldog Stadium.
