Former FAMU professors Howard E. and Margaret W. Lewis and alumna Erica A. Hill, were honored by the university at a November 15th ceremony for making a financial commitment to the university by creating endowed scholarships with a minimum donation of $150,000.

Hill and the Lewis each will be honored with a plaque around the enternal flame.

Before their deaths, the Lewis established the Howard E. and Margaret W. Lewis Endowed Scholarship, which benefits deserving students in the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities and the School of Nursing.  Margret Lewis served as Dean of the School of Nursing. Her husband Howard served as head of the Fine Arts Department.

Erica Hill came to FAMU through the community college route and has made career in corporate procurement, supply chain management and supplier diversity working for large, multinational organizations like Deloitte Consulting, Ernst & Young and Georgia Pacific as well as corporations, including Primark Stores, in Boston, and MeadWestvaco in Richmond, Virginia.

Hill says, “FAMU changed her life.”

“These gifts will go a long way toward ensuring student success with academic scholarships in the arts, nursing and for non-traditional students,” said FAMU President Larry Robinson. “These gifts will be the bridge to help deserving students graduate and go on to being productive citizens.”
