The FAMU Board of Trustees this morning will consider a proposal by the University Student Fee Committee to reallocate the current student fee mix for the 2019/2020 academic year to provide for a $3 per credit hour increase to the current athletic fee students pay.  The increased athletic fee would be achieved by reducing the current undergraduate technology fee from $5.16 per credit hour to $2.16 per credit hour.

The athletic fee would increase to $16.97 per credit hour from $13.97 per credit hour.   The net cost to students --- in real dollars-- would be zero dollars.

However, the reduced in the technology fee would mean that that would be less money in that fund to pay for technology upgrades, computers, wifi, and the like.

It is not immediately known how much the shift in fees to athletics will raise for the athletic program next year.

The University Student Fee Committee approved fee “reallocation” by a unanimous vote at its November 1 committee.  The FAMU Board of Trustee, subcommittee on Budget and Finance approved it on yesterday.  The full Board will take up the measure this morning.

Student fees at FAMU have not been increased in nearly a decade.

Update: This fee "reallocation" was passed by full Board.
