FAMU athletic officials are seriously exploring the option of adding long-time rival Tennessee State University (Tigers) to the football schedule this fall, according to multiple sources. Both the Rattlers and Tigers both suddenly have unexpected open dates on September 12, 2020.
Tennessee State’s September 12th date with Jackson State, in the Southern Heritage Classic, was cancelled on June 17th, as a result of COVID-19. Two days later, FAMU's game with Southern University, also on September 12th, was cancelled as result of health and safety concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Rattlers and Tigers have met on the gridiron for 55 times, with the Tigers leading the series that dates back to 1944, 29-25. TSU currently has a six-game winning streak including a 24-13 victory in 2017, when the two teams last met at Raymond James Stadium, in the Tampa Classic.
