FAMU football players, and students, march for social justice

FAMU head football coach Willie Simmons joined members of his football team, and other students, in the "We Have No Choice: March for Justice” on Saturday morning to bring awareness to racial injustice in the country.

The march was organized, in part by Blake Simpson, a junior wide receiver and corner back on the Rattler football team, and Christian Miley, a member of the FAMU Marching 100. The students parked and gathered at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center around 11 a.m. before marching to the Florida Capitol.  

“With the recent shooting of Jacob Blake, and far too many other incidents involving police brutality…. we are (simply) tired as a black community,” Simpson wrote on his twitter page.

"As the FAMU football family, we are committed to change," said one of the football players. "Police brutality and other injustices occurring across our nation have to end, and our team stands united to embrace our diversity and promote a culture of peace, equality and understanding. Regardless of our backgrounds, we all need to listen to each other and learn to respect and love our differences."  

Several FAMU and FSU students, and other members of the community joined in the peaceful demonstration.
