FAMU has once again solidified its position among the nation's top public universities by securing the 81st spot in the U.S. News & World Report's 2025 rankings. This marks the second year in a row that FAMU has placed within the prestigious Top 100, showcasing its ongoing commitment to academic excellence and student success.

Despite operating with significantly less state support compared to other institutions, including the additional funding provided to Florida's so-called "preeminent" universities, FAMU has managed to outperform several well-known universities across the nation. In fiscal year 2022-23, the Florida Board of Governors requested, and received $150 million to disperse among the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of South Florida, with each institution receiving an additional $50 million to improve their national rankings. Despite this substantial investment, FAMU has continued to excel.

In 2021, Florida State University (FSU) was ranked 19th among public universities, but today it stands at No. 23.
Meanwhile, FAMU during the same period, with no additional state investment FAMU jumped 23 spots from number 104 in 2021 to No.81 in the latest 2024-25 rankings.

FAMU out ranks some big names.
Along the way, FAMU has bested several well-known universities, including Kansas State University (#91), the University of Alabama (#92), the University of Mississippi (#92), Louisiana State University (#97), the University of Louisville (#97), the University of Arkansas (#103), the University of Nevada (#113), Mississippi State (#116), Oklahoma State (#107), Texas Tech (#116), West Virginia University (#119), the University of Memphis (#149), Boise State (#161), Bowling Green State (#152), and others.

FAMU's ability to compete with universities that often have larger endowments and more substantial state funding underscores its resilience and the effectiveness of its strategic initiatives. The university's consistent rise in rankings is a testament to its dedicated faculty, staff, and students who work tirelessly to maintain high standards of education and research.

"We are incredibly proud of our university's continued recognition as one of the top public universities in the nation," university administrators proclaimed. "This achievement is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our entire FAMU family. We remain committed to providing our students with a world-class education that prepares them to be leaders in their respective fields."

As FAMU continues to build on its successes, the university is poised to further enhance its academic programs, research initiatives, and community engagement efforts, ensuring that it remains a beacon of excellence in higher education.
