Marissa Stubbs, a senior broadcast journalism student at FAMU, has been chosen as one of six journalism and communications students from HBCU’s to participate in ESPN’s /The Undefeated fourth class of Rhoden Fellows. The Rhoden Fellowship program is a one-year sports journalism internship program with The Undefeated for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Stubbs, who hails from St. Petersburg, FL, is the sports editor for The Famuan. In addition, she is contributor to “The Playmakers,” a weekly sports-talk radio show on WANM 90.5 FM – FAMU’s award-winning radio station.
The Rhoden Fellows Initiative is a training program for the next generation of sports journalists from historically black colleges and universities, headed by Undefeated editor-at-large and former New York Times award-winning columnist William C. Rhoden. The fellowship – established as part of The Undefeated’s mission to develop new voices and serve as an incubator for future multicultural journalists – is open to outstanding undergraduate students at HBCUs.
The Undefeated is a digital sports and pop culture website owned and operated by ESPN that launched on May 17, 2016. The site describes itself as "the premier platform for exploring the intersections of race, sports and culture. ESPN is a owned by Disney (80%) and Hearst Communications (20%).
