The $10 million will be taken from the $40 million originally allocated to FSU for the creation of a convention center that would tie the Donald Tucker Civic Center into the FSU Turnbull Conference Center.
Bragg Stadium has serious structural issues that need to be addressed; FAMU is also hoping to improve the restrooms, deal with ADA issues, repair the scoreboard, install a new sound system, and demolish the current press box and build a new one on the east side of the stadium.
The funding request, which was championed by City Commissioner Dianne Cox-Williams and County Commissioners Nick Maddox and Bill Proctor, is time sensitive; if repairs are not made in the near future, FAMU football would not be able to use the stadium.
The measure passed on a 9-3 vote, nearly 4.5 hours into the meeting. County Commissioners Kristin Dozier, Bryan Desloge, and Jimbo Jackson were the “no” votes.
