This afternoon at 3 p.m. Tallahassee City Commissioners and Leon County Commissioners will meet virtually asthe Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency to, among other things, vote on a proposal to provide $10 million in tax dollars to repair Bragg Memorial Stadium.
In November 1989 Tallahassee and Leon County voters approved a local option one cent sales tax to provide funding for transportation projects and law enforcement facility improvements. In November 2000 taxpayers voted to extended the optional penny sales tax to fund infrastructure and economic development projects to improve and enhance the area.
A study by the Leon County Division of Tourism estimated that the annual economic impact on the County from a typical FAMU football season at $7.5m - $11.5m. The county based this on visitor traffic from the past five years.
The report, further, estimated that FAMU’s proposed move to the Southwestern Athletic Conference would add another $1.8m in annual economic impact to the county.
