Leon County Commissioner Bryan Desloge, who just a few months ago voted against FAMU’s Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency request for $10 million to repair Bragg Stadium, lost his bid for reelection to political newcomer Bryan Welch. With all precincts Welch had 56.8% of the vote to Desloge’s 43.1%.
Desloge, who currently serves as chair of the Leon County Commission, is a 14-year veteran on the commission. He was one of three Blueprint board members that voted against the FAMU project, County Commissioners Jimbo Jackson and Kristin Dozier were the others. Dozier comes up for reelection in 2022.
While Rattler Nation can’t take credit for Desloge’s defeat, we did drag him on the regular for his September vote against FAMU's request for funding.
By all analysis, Desloge's true down fall came when he got on the wrong side of Killearn residents, on the north side of Tallahassee, for his zoning vote in favor of increased development at Welaunee Plantation.
Lawson wins easily
In other election news, FAMU grad Al Lawson, easily won a third term to Congress garnering 65.4% of the vote. Lawson bested challenger Gary Adler by a more than 111,000 vote margin.
Lawson’s district hugs the Georgia boarder stretching from Gadsden County to Duval.
State Rep. Shevrin Jones, also a FAMU grad, cruised to victory in his bid to move up to State Senate after eight years in the Florida House of Representatives.
