School of Allied Health Dean Cynthia Hughes Harris, Ph.D., was recently presented at the Tallahassee Chan Center's on "Ending Racism" Conversations for Change" event.

Harris has engaged in multiple initiatives related to inequities in health care, is a past recipient of a multimillion-dollar National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant focused on health disparities in both rural and urban communities.  Her research highlighted community empowerment systems as unique approaches to health and wellness.  She frequently addresses the results of the qualitative experiences of minority students in various academic environments.

The Tallahassee Chan Center, established in 2017, bills itself as a sanctuary for the cultivation of wisdom and compassion.

Last September, the Center initiated a series of online educational programs focused on racism from multiple perspectives—racial trauma, the history of slavery, criminal justice discrimination, gender inequalities, and health and education systems—while also amplifying the agency of Black literature, arts, healing and transformation.
