FAMU is reinstituting a curfew for students living on campus, beginning midnight tonight until further notice. The move comes as the number of positive cases among students increased from 12 to 21 students in a week and amid concerns that students are gathering maskless at off campus parties.

“The large impromptu gatherings blatantly violate our large gatherings and FAMU’s COVID-19 conduct enforcement procedures,” Dean of Students Bomani Spell wrote in a letter distributed via FAMUInfo. “We are extremely concerned that students are not adhering to the policies.”

Since Aug. 1, FAMU’s report shows 378 positive results reported, including 297 students and 81 employees. As of Monday, 17 students were in isolation.

Under the FAMU curfew, students must remain in their assigned residence hall from 10 p.m.-6 a.m. Monday-Thursday and from 12 a.m.-6 a.m. Friday-Sunday.

Students who disregard the curfew will be subject to sanctions, up to suspension and expulsion from the university.

FAMU's rules prohibit gatherings of more than 10 individuals, gatherings of 10 or fewer must be in a space that allows for physical distancing of 6 or more feet, and mandates that face coverings must be worn at all times inside university buildings.

The curfew will remain in effect until further notice.
