FAMU rose 13 spots to No. 104 among national public universities in the latest ranking from U.S. News & World Report, and No. 13 on the social mobility index.

Among HBCUs, FAMU ranks No. 7 and is the top publicly ranked HBCU for the third consecutive year in a row.  Last year, FAMU rose six places, ranking No. 117 among national public universities and was tied for No. 7 among HBCUs with North Carolina A&T.

The U.S. News ranking, one of the most widely referenced measurements of undergraduate programs, is based on 20 factors. Contributing to FAMU’s overall ranking were its academic reputation and its high selectivity.

During the past five years, the university’s four-year graduation rate climbed from 25.6 % to 47.5%.

Over the past year, the university has made it a priority of breaking into the top 100 National Public Universities.

“Moving up 13 places is a testament to our focus on student success and the dedication of our faculty, staff and students to the tenets of our strategic plan, FAMU Rising,” said FAMU President Larry Robinson, Ph.D.  “Our intentionality and teamwork allow us to focus acutely on opportunities and more effectively address challenges.”

“The rise in our rankings illustrates what we can do with a focused plan and improved investment, both of which are critical to our success. It is a statement about a joint effort between our Board and the President to establish and stick with key priorities,” FAMU Board of Trustees Chairman Kelvin Lawson said. “We want to continue to push the envelope and focus on joining the ranks of the top 100 public colleges and universities in the nation.”
