The FAMU Veterinary Tech program has teamed up with the City of Tallahassee Animal Services in a partnership that will give vet tech students hands-on experience by providing medical care and treatment for dogs at the city's animal shelter.

That treatment also increases the dogs' chances of being adopted.

Rachel Barton, DVM , Chief Veterinarian for the city's Animal Services says this program is a win-win.

"The fact that we have a vet-tech program here in town is amazing and we're so excited to be partnered with them, students are getting more hands-on experience, the dogs are certainly benefiting from it, and it's really helping us out too, they're providing medical care to the dogs that we might not otherwise be able to provide here in the shelter."

With 40 undergraduate students in the vet-tech program, FAMU can care for up to 8 dogs from the shelter at anyone time.
