The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, today, opens a week of high-profile confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court in its 233-year history.

Jackson who was raised in Miami and attended public schools there has a FAMU connection

Her uncle Calvin Ross, served as Chief of the FAMU Police Department for 11 years, before retiring in 2012.  Prior to taking over the FAMU PD, Ross had served as Chief of the City of Miami Police Department and Secretary of Florida’s Department of Juvenile Justice.

During her nomination press conference, Judge Jackson and President Joe Biden touted the fact that she comes from a law enforcement family, with two uncles who were career law enforcement officers.
