The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, today, opens a week of
high-profile confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, the
first Black woman nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court in its 233-year history.
Jackson who was raised in Miami and attended public schools there has a FAMU connection.
Her uncle Calvin Ross, served as Chief of the FAMU
Police Department for 11 years, before retiring in 2012. Prior to taking over the FAMU PD, Ross had served as Chief of the City of Miami Police Department and Secretary
of Florida’s Department of Juvenile Justice.
During her nomination press conference, Judge
Jackson and President Joe Biden touted the fact that she comes from a law enforcement family, with two uncles who were career
law enforcement officers.
