FAMU sweeps series against BCU moves into 2nd place SWAC East

The FAMU baseball (15-18, 9-3 SWAC) team defeated Bethune-Cookman (13-18, 7-5 SWAC) 6-2 to close out the three game weekend series on Sunday afternoon.  

The Ratters need extra innings –13 in all – to seal the victory and sweep the series.  This was the Rattlers’ third sweep of the season.

The Wildcats scored first in the bottom of the fourth with a solo homer to go up 1-0.  The Rattlers struck back taking the lead in the next half inning with three straight two-out base hits that made it 2-1.
 
Things were quiet until the bottom of the eighth, when B-CU tied the game at 2-2 with a double steal and an error.
 
The Wildcats threatened again loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but could not push a run across, and the game went to extras.
 
FAMU threatened in the top of the tenth with a two-out double and a walk. The runner advanced to third on a wild pitch to put runners at the corners, but couldn’t score.
 
The bottom of the tenth saw the Wildcats again load the bases, and again come up empty.
 
FAMU took the lead for good in the 13th with three runs on four hits to make it 6-2.
The victory moves Rattlers  into second place in the SWAC Eastern Division. One game behind Alabama State. 

The Rattlers are back in action Tuesday at 5 p.m. versus Mercer University at home.
