FAMU Athletics Director Kortne Gosha resigned yesterday effective immediately after just shy of 29 months on the job. During his tenure he is credited with the renovation of the Galimore-Powell Football Fieldhouse, other athletic facility upgrades, and the new Nike/LeBron James apparel contract

In a brief parting statement, Gosha said “I am incredibly proud of the work and the people that have done that work in such a short time.

We have elevated the program and institutional reputation to a level of new credibility.  I/we have created a transformational student-athlete experience second to none that has elevated FAMU and will place the program on a  (upward) trajectory far beyond my tenure.”

FAMU President Larry Robinson named Michael Smith as interim athletic director.

Smith, the university's assistant Vice President, Finance and Administration, previously served as interim AD in 2013.  From 1981-1984, Smith wore the Orange and Green uniform as a wide receiver and kick returner under Coach Rudy Hubbard.

The university said in a statement that it plans to conduct a swift national search to find a permanent athletic director.
