It wasn’t exactly Marian Anderson singing in front of the Lincoln Memorial. But FAMU grad G. “Star” Swain's 2016 impromptu a cappella rendition of the National Anthem at the national landmark was the sort of life-changing performance few who've heard it will soon forget.
Swain, a former FAMU Marching 100 trombonist, who many will recall singing gospel tunes, “Order My Steps” and “Praise is What I Do”, with the band went viral after singing while on vacation in Washington, DC. Swain and her friends posted to Facebook and Youtube which was viewed by millions and earned her appearances on Good Morning America, CBS Evening News, Inside Edition, CNN and FOX and Friends, the Washington Post, the Democratic National Convention and other media.
