FAMU’s fall 2022 enrollment is 9,027, a 22 student increase over fall 2021, according to preliminary data (9/9/22) from the Office of Institutional Research. The average GPA for the fall 22 incoming freshmen was 3.83 the data said, earlier the university had reported the fall GPA at 3.93.
Increase in applications don't translate to enrollment
While FAMU saw a 45.5% one-year bump in applications for its freshman class with more than 11,000 students applying for admission, and 3,005 being accepted, the increase did not translate to a significant enrollment increase.
For the sake of comparison, FAMU’s enrollment 2020 was 8,841. In Fall 2015 it was 9,920 and in Fall 2014 it was 10,223. FAMU's fall headcount in 2010 was 13,089 students.
In 2013, Florida’s public university system, which FAMU is a member, shifted to performance-based funding model, which funds universities for achieving certain benchmarks and withholds funding for not meeting the benchmarks.

Under this model, FAMU strategically raised its admissions standards, and began looking more critically at the academic preparedness of applicants.
