FAMU to be 'front and center' in Will Packer's HBCU Homecoming documentary ‘The Return’

NBCUniversial TV will premiere “The Return” a documentary film produced by FAMU grad Will Packer, a record-breaking film and Emmy-nominated motion picture and TV producer.

The Return was shot in 2021 explores the HBCU experience through the prism of Homecoming celebrations which had largely been put on hold in 2020 due to COVID-19.

It is no coincidence that FAMU's 2021 Homecoming theme was "An Epic Return", so clearing Packet is giving a nod to his alma mater.

The documentary production team traveled to FAMU, Jackson State and North Carolina Central to cover their homecomings.  The film also includes candid conversations with alumni from Morehouse, Spelman, Clark Atlanta, Howard, FAMU, Tennessee State, Jackson State, NC A&T and more.  

The film will premiere on Xfinity's Black Experience channel tonight.  

“We’re thrilled to work with producer, Will Packer, and emerging director Ali Muhammad to bring this exclusive  our company-wide mission of investing in and showcasing authentic Black stories and culture.,” said Keesha Boyd, Executive Director, Multicultural Video & Entertainment, Xfinity Consumer Services. 

“When we launched this channel in 2021, our goal was to facilitate the discovery of authentic stories like The Return, while providing a platform for both our existing partners, as well as emerging Black content creators."
