FAMU's women’s and men’s teams finished in 6th and 7th place, respectively, in the 2023 SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships which concluded yesterday in Birmingham, AL. The lady Rattlers garnered a total of 47 points at the outing while the men amassed a total of 48 points.
The Rattler men’s team finished slightly better this year than they did last year when they placed 9th overall. The women’s team finished slightly worse falling from 4th place last year to 6th place this year.
Kiara Ivy, a graduate student, continued her dominance in SWAC women's pole vault taking 1st place with a score of 3.71m, repeating as conference PV champ. On the mens side, Pache' Caldwell finished in second-place in the high jump with a collegiate best of (2.10m),
This year’s SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships was FAMU’s first under head coach Garfield Ellenwood, who was named Director of Track & Field and Cross Country on January 3rd of this year.
Alabama State walked away with the championship trophies on both the men’s and women’s side.
