FAMU senior pitcher Hunter Viets struck out eight Grambling hitters in over seven innings of work to help lead the Rattlers past the Tigers 17-2 on Friday night in the Ralph Garr-Bill Lucas HBCU Classic in Atlanta. The victory lifted the Rattlers to 4-7 on the season.
Senior pitcher Zach Morea also made an impact on the mound for the Rattlers, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts. The Rattlers held the Tigers to just six hits all evening.
At the plate, the Rattlers were led by senior Ty Hanchey, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Freshman Joseph Pierini put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-5 with a triple, a walk and three RBI. Sophomore Will Brown also helped out for FAMU, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a double, three walks and two RBI.
