Earlier this evening we published a story, which we later removed, which implied that a co-owner of a construction company vying for two construction projects on campus had at one point posed in blackface. We later discovered those facts were wrong.
We totally blew it by confusing two different construction companies with similar names. In our rush to get something out , we clearly fell short in our fact-checking. We are sorry.
Everyone makes mistakes, true professionals quickly admit their errors and apologize. So today, we will own our “fake news” award for the blunder we made and promise our readers we’ll strive to do better in our reporting in the future.
