2 FAMU students selected as White House HBCU Scholars

Maiya Lyn-Ah-Ping and Afiya Ward 

Two FAMU students --Maiya Lyn-Ah-Ping and Afiya Ward --- have been selected as a 2023 White House HBCU Scholars.  

Lyn-Ah-Ping is a senior Business Administ
ration major from Cutler Bay, FL, and Ward is a junior Agribusiness major from Saint Paul, MN.

Ward is currently a Marketing intern with the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball team, on an NBA HBCU Fellowship, while Lyn-Ah-Ping is working with Well Fargo Bank HQ in Charlotte, NC, as a supply chain intern.

Over the course of an academic school year, HBCU Scholars will serve as ambassadors of the White House Initiative on HBCUs. They will be offered training and cross-university networking opportunities. Scholars will also have an opportunity to work on issues specifically related to the HBCU community and participate in national and regional events with professionals from a wide range of disciplines.

I’m thrilled to see the HBCU Scholars program continue to expand its reach and provide such exciting professional development, networking, and educational opportunities to some of our nation’s brightest and most promising young leaders.”
