FAMU expected to name former Olympian as next head women's basketball coach

Three-week after Shalon Pillow abruptly resigned, FAMU is expected to name University of New Mexico assistant/recruiting coordinator Bridgette Gordon as the new head women’s basketball coach later this afternoon, according to multiple sources. 

Gordon is a 1988 Olympic Gold Medalist (Seoul Korea), 2007 Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, and two-time national champion at the University of Tennessee). 

Gordon, a native of Deland, FL, who was just announced as an assistant coach New Mexico State last month has held previous assistant spots at the University of Cincinnati (2022), Tennessee (2017-19), Wichita State (2010-17), Stetson (2001-06) and Georgia State (2007-10).

As a player at Tennessee, Gordon was named NCAA Final Four MVP, SEC Female Athlete of the Year and SEC Player of the Year as a senior and was a two-time All- four straight Final Fours. Gordon finished her college career as the all-time leader in points (2,462) and steals (336) and remains second in both categories.
