Shelley Johnson, Ed.D., Dean of the FAMU School of Nursing, since July 1, 2020, has resigned effective July 12th  In recent years the School of Nursing has struggled with low first-time licensure passage rates.  In 2021 the Florida Board of Nursing placed the (undergraduate) nursing program on probation for two years.  In 2023, the school had its probation extended through January 2024.

In recent years, the school has increased its undergraduate admission standards and now requires students to have a 3.5 GPA in math and science. As a result, the current licensure pass rates are trending upward with the latest scores on the NCLEX exam being 70.37% overall for quarter one, with the 2022 cohort scoring 79.17%.

In September 2022the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) voted to continue the school’s accreditation without any stipulations.

Lisa Gardner, DNP, associate dean of graduate programs, has been named interim dean of the school.
