Both FAMU men’s and women’s basketball teams lost their season openers to nationally ranked opponents on Tuesday night. The women suffered a 93-64 loss to the No. 11 ranked University of Tennessee Lady Vols, while the men loss 105-54 to the No. 8 ranked Creighton Bluejays.
The women's basketball team showed glimpses of hope with three players scoring in double figures, led by Ahriahna Grizzle, who had 16 points and six assists. Hailee Brennen tacked on 13 points and Ivet Subirats helped out with 12 points. They also hit 9-of-19 attempts from three-point range, shooting 47.4 percent from deep.in a 93-64 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers on the road Tuesday.
The FAMU men, on the other hand, struggled all night and had two players score in double figures, led by Keith Lamar, who had 16 points and K'Jei Parker with 12 points.
Both teams will take today off to try to regroup before playing again on Thursday. The women will travel to Murfreesboro, TN, to take on Middle Tennessee at 11:30 am, while the men with travel to Lincoln, NE, to take on the University of Nebraska in an 8 pm ET match up.
