In a stunning display of athleticism and determination, the FAMU softball team bounced back winning Saturday’s doubleheader over Jackson State in Mississippi. The FAMU Rattlers showcased their prowess on the diamond, clinching 7-2 and 8-0 victories.
The first game set the tone for the Rattlers' dominance as they broke a 2-2 fifth inning tie and never looked back. With stellar pitching performances and solid defense, FAMU limited Jackson State's scoring opportunities while capitalizing on their own offensive chances. The Rattlers' bats came alive, driving in runs and building a commanding lead to secure a 7-2 victory in the opener.
Undeterred by their initial success, the FAMU softball squad continued their relentless pursuit of victory in the second game. Led by the stellar pitching of junior Samanatha Smith who tossed a three-hit shutout and fueling the momentum from their earlier win, while the Rattlers' hitters continued to deliver clutch hits and runs, sealing an emphatic 8-0 win to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Coach Camise Patterson praised the team's resilience and determination, emphasizing their unwavering focus and teamwork throughout both games. "Our players showed tremendous heart and determination today," said Coach Patterson. "They executed our game plan flawlessly and never let up, even when facing tough challenges. I'm incredibly proud of their performance."
Key players such as Brianna Duggins, and Nyomi Jones stood out with exceptional contributions both defensively and offensively, earning praise from teammates and fans alike.
With Saturday’s doubleheader sweep, the FAMU softball team improved their SWAC record to 8-1 to solidify their position at the top of the SWAC East and as a force to be reckoned with in the conference.
