In a move that signals a new era for FAMU the men's basketball program, the FAMU Board of Trustees is poised to approve a nearly three-year deal for Patrick Crarey when they meet on June 24, that will see him earn $150,000 annually.  Crarey was announced as the new head coach on April 17, and signed the employment agreement then.   If approved, the contract will run from July 1, 2024, to April 5, 2027.

Crarey, who comes to FAMU from Saint Thomas University in Miami Gardens, FL, where he competed in the NAIA, is set to see his salary nearly triple (according to public records from glass door and college factual ) upon his move to FAMU.

Crarey's salary will be nearly identical to that of former men's basketball coach Robert McCullum.

Despite the significant increase in pay, Crarey's contract is relatively straightforward, with no relocation incentives offered for his move from Miami to Tallahassee. The contract includes several performance-based incentives aimed at rewarding success both on and off the court.

Crarey will be eligible for a $2,000 bonus if his team achieves a graduation rate of 85 percent based on the NCAA Graduation Success Rate or if his teams achieves a 960 Academic Progress Rate (APR). He will also receive $1,000 for winning the regular conference championship and $2,000 for winning the tournament championship. Should he be named conference coach of the year, Crarey would earn an additional $2,500.

Postseason success will also be rewarded handsomely. Crarey would receive $1,000 if his team makes a National Invitation Tournament (NIT) appearance and $7,000 if his team beats a Power Five conference opponent. Making the NCAA tournament would earn Crarey either $2,500 for a tournament appearance, $5,000 for an initial tournament win, and $1,000 for each subsequent tournament game win, with a significant $15,000 bonus for a final four appearance.

All of the performance incentives in Crarey's contract come with the caveat "subject to the availability of funds".

In terms of scheduling, Crarey would receive $30,000 if he schedules more than $600,000 in guarantee games each season.

Additionally, Crarey would be allowed to keep all revenue from his coaching camps, providing him with an opportunity for additional income.
