In a significant development for the golf program, the 2024 HBCU National Champions unveiled a new putting room on campus, thanks to generous donations from the Rattlers-in-Arms and the Plant City Alumni Chapter. The unveiling marks a milestone for the FAMU Golf Team, providing student-athletes with a dedicated space to hone their skills regardless of weather conditions or time of day.
Embattled Director of Athletics Tiffani-Dawn Sykes expressed her gratitude towards the donors, stating, "This is a very transformational project on our campus. Special thanks to the Plant City Alumni Chapter and Rattlers-in-Arms for making an investment in this space so our student-athletes can work on their game no matter the weather or time of day."
Head Coach Mike Rice echoed Sykes' sentiments, emphasizing the uniqueness and importance of the new facility. "I want to thank the Plant City Alumni Chapter for supporting this. I picked up the phone and said, 'Hey, look, this is an idea we have. I think it's huge to have a putting facility.' There's no other HBCU that has this. We're trying to be the trendsetters, and I thank you guys, as you have been supporting us for years."
The putting room, features five different holes, is designed to offer a comprehensive practice environment for the student-athletes. The institution plans to further enhance the facility by incorporating advanced technology in the future, aiming to provide an unparalleled training experience.
As the new school year approaches, the FAMU Golf Team are poised to make waves in collegiate golf, bolstered by their innovative new putting room. With the support of their community, the team looks forward to setting new trends and achieving further success in the upcoming season.
