FAMU has announced the appointment of Audrey Alexander as the new chief of police for the FAMU Police Department, effective September 13, 2024. Alexander, a seasoned law enforcement professional with over 29 years of experience, will take over the department on a full-time basis following the departure of former Chief Terrance Calloway.
Alexander, a FAMU alumna, has held various positions within the Department of Campus Safety and Security. Most recently, she served as the assistant director/administrative lieutenant, overseeing 25 sworn and non-sworn officers, managing departmental budgets, and spearheading community policing initiatives. Her extensive career at FAMU has also included roles such as interim chief of police, administrative sergeant, investigator, and patrol officer. Additionally, Alexander is certified as a 911 telecommunicator/dispatcher.
Before joining FAMU, Alexander had a distinguished 24-year military career, retiring as a major. She served in the U.S. Army Reserve and Florida National Guard, holding leadership positions such as executive officer, company commander, platoon leader, squad leader, and investigative officer. Her military service also included a one-year deployment to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Alexander holds two degrees from FAMU: a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and master's degrees in public administration and adult education. Her extensive experience and dedication make her well-suited to lead the FAMU Police Department into the future.
