The FAMU Rattler football is gearing up for another pivotal matchup this Saturday, after narrowly clinching a 24-23 victory against the Norfolk State Spartans in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge. The Rattlers now turn their attention to the South Carolina State Bulldogs in what promises to be an electrifying encounter at Bragg Memorial Stadium.

The Rattlers, currently on a 19-game home winning streak, are riding high on confidence. Their home winning streak is the second-longest in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), trailing only South Dakota State's 21 consecutive victories. Despite their impressive run, the Rattlers are well aware of the challenges that lie ahead, especially with a formidable opponent like the Bulldogs on the horizon.

Head Coach James Colzie, who expressed his team's determination to start the season on a strong note, acknowledged the narrow victory against Norfolk State. "Going 1-0 was the end goal we intended to hope for. After watching the film and looking at some of our mistakes, I think we’re excited but also extremely lucky to be at that point," Colzie said. "Extremely excited about our team persevering."

The Rattlers, currently ranked 25th in the FCS Coaches Poll, are preparing to face a South Carolina State team that is under new leadership. Head Coach Chennis Berry, who previously coached at Benedict College, is set to make his debut with the Bulldogs. The last time these two teams met was in 2022, with the Rattlers securing a hard-fought 20-14 victory.

The stakes are high for both teams, as the Rattlers aim to extend their winning streak and maintain their unbeaten record at home since 2018. South Carolina State, on the other hand, is looking to make a statement under Berry's guidance.

The matchup is scheduled for Saturday, August 31, at 6 p.m. Eastern Time at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida. Fans can catch the action on ESPN Plus for television viewers and via the Rattlers Mobile App for audio listeners.
