Tennis team over powers the competition on day 1 of HBCU National Tennis Tournament

The Lady Rattlers tennis team showcased their depth and skill on Day 1 of the HBCU National Tennis Tournament going undefeated with seven singles and two double wins.  

Larissa Silva set the tone early, winning her first match against Jamiya Ivory from Tuskegee with a decisive 2-0 score. Genesis Whitelock faced a tougher challenge against Masa Mitic from Hampton, dropping the first set before rallying back. Whitelock displayed remarkable resilience, coming back from a 9-4 deficit in the tiebreaker to win the final set 11-9, securing a 2-1 victory.

Reagan Harris and Sara Rakim also contributed to the team's success, each winning their matches with a 2-0 score. Rakim faced Paris Washington from Southern, a SWAC competitor, while Harris defeated Tanyaradzwa Kaome from Tuskegee.

Veronica Rodriguez made a triumphant return after missing last season due to an injury, winning her match against Leiloni Payton from Tuskegee with a 2-0 score. Silva continued her winning streak, defeating Patricia Wamba from Benedict with another 2-0 victory.

In doubles play, the Rattlers continued their winning ways. The duo of Rodriguez and Salinas defeated Clark Atlanta 6-0, while Harris and Silva secured a 6-0 win over Hampton. Rakim and Whitelock are poised to make their doubles appearance on Friday, September 20, aiming to continue the team's success.

The Rattlers' performance in College Park was a testament to their hard work and dedication. With a strong singles and doubles record, the team looks forward to maintaining their momentum in upcoming matches.
