Southern dominates FAMU men
The FAMU men's basketball team endured a tough outing, falling to Southern University 91-57. The Rattlers (3-10, 0-2 SWAC) found themselves in a deep hole early, trailing by 27 points at halftime.
Southern's bench played a crucial role in the victory, outscoring FAMU's reserves 60-17. The Jaguars also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Rattlers 34-25, and capitalized on those extra possessions with 19 second-chance points.
Sterling Young led FAMU with 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including three 3-pointers. However, Southern's balanced attack, with six players scoring in double figures and shooting 53.2% from the field, proved too much for the Rattlers.
FAMU struggled with ball security, committing 15 turnovers that Southern converted into 24 points. The Rattlers shot 40% from the field and 26.3% from three-point range.
The loss drops FAMU to 0-2 in SWAC play as they prepare to face the Grambling Tigers on Monday.

The FAMU women's basketball team also fell to Southern, losing 77-61. Despite keeping the game close early and matching Southern's first-quarter output at 16-16, the Rattlers could not sustain that momentum.

Ivet Subirats led FAMU with 13 points, including a strong performance from beyond the arc, going 4-of-7 from three-point range. Cheyenne McEvans played all 40 minutes, contributing 12 points, six assists, and three steals. Sydney Hendrix added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
The Jaguars gradually built their lead throughout the game, outscoring FAMU in the final three quarters (20-13, 22-20, 19-12).
Despite shooting a solid 41.2% from three-point range (7-of-17), FAMU was hampered by 21 turnovers, which Southern converted into 22 points. The Rattlers also struggled to defend inside, allowing Southern to score 36 points in the paint compared to their own 22.
The loss drops FAMU to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Rattlers will travel to Grambling to play the Tigers on Monday night.
