FAMU’s campus was buzzing with music and energy this week as more than 422 middle and high school students from across the nation gathered for the Marching “100” Summer Band Camp, a hallmark program renowned for shaping the next generation of musicians and performers. Now in its 31st year the week-long intensive program running July 12–19, combines rigorous training in music, marching, and performance arts, solidifying its reputation as one of the country’s most comprehensive youth band camps.

Campers, ranging from grades 7 through 12, participate in a curriculum designed to refine their skills in music proficiency, precision marching, and ensemble performance. Students delve into concert band , small chamber groups, and specialized workshops for auxiliary disciplines like color guard, dance, baton twirling, and drum major techniques. The camp’s elite instructional staff—including members of FAMU’s storied Marching “100”—provides hands-on mentorship, emphasizing both technical mastery and artistic expression.

“This camp isn’t just about playing notes or hitting marks; it’s about building discipline, creativity, and camaraderie,” said one current Marching 100 member who serves as a camp coordinator. “We’re here to elevate these students to their highest potential.”

With registration fees set at $800 for residential attendees (for on-campus lodging) and $650 for non-residential participants, the camp attracts young musicians and educators invested in advanced musical education. Many return year after year, citing the program’s unmatched blend of tradition and innovation.

As the camp nears its conclusion, students will showcase their progress in a final performance on this morning at 10 a.m.—a highlight anticipated by families and local music enthusiasts. For many young artists, the experience marks a pivotal step toward collegiate and professional aspirations, all under the banner of FAMU’s legendary Marching “100,” a symbol of excellence since 1946.

“This camp transforms lives,” said a parent of a returning camper. “It’s where passion meets purpose.”

The Marching “100” Summer Band Camp continues to cement FAMU’s legacy the premiere marching band camp in the nation for developing musical talent and inspiring students to march forward—both on the field and beyond.
