In a display of deep institutional loyalty and financial support, the Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at FAMU alumni donated $75,000 to the university’s “ALL IN/Restore the Strike” athletics fundraising campaign, on today, propelling the initiative past its $250,000 goal with a day to spare.
The contribution, made on the chapter’s 89th Charter Day, brought the total raised to $292,326 as of Friday evening. BADST, along with a $25,00 donation earlier this month from Alpha Xi Gives, the alumni members of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., accounted for 34 percent ( $100,000) of the total funds raised. The contributions from the two members of the Devine 9, underscore the critical role of Greek-letter alumni networks the university.
“This is what sisterhood in action looks like,” a member of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta said in a social media post. “FAMU gave us so much. Giving back to ensure our Rattler football team has what they need to represent our university well is not just a duty; it’s an honor.”
The “ALL IN/Restore the Strike” campaign was launched by FAMU Athletics late last month, after the hiring on new head football coach Quinn Gray to support the football team amid rising operational costs and competitive pressures in collegiate sports. The initial deadline for the campaign is set to end on midnight Saturday, though athletic department officials have not ruled out an extension to capitalize on the momentum.
This marks the second major gift from the alumni BADST to FAMU Athletics in recent years. In 2020, the sorority donated $125,000, signaling a sustained commitment to the university’s athletic and academic mission.
“The generosity of our Greek organizations, and specifically the sustained partnership of Delta Sigma Theta, has been nothing short of transformational,” said Coach Gray. “They didn’t just help us meet our goal — hopefully they will inspire others to give, and they reaffirmed the power of the FAMUly.”
"The Beta Nu Alpha's, the Beta Alpha AKA's, the Upsilon Psi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and Phi Beta Sigma you are on the clock!", wrote a Rattler in one of the alumni social media groups.
University officials say the funds will directly support student-athletes through enhanced resources, travel accommodations, and academic services, strengthening FAMU’s position both on the field and in the classroom.
With the initial goal surpassed, the campaign now looks to build on its success, aiming to further invest in the next generation of exceptional Rattler student athletes.
the AKA's and the Alphas need to step up!!!
