The FAMU Board of Trustees is set to vote on a proposed amendment to President Marva Johnson’s employment contract , this Thursday, that would provide her with a one-time relocation payment of $25,000 and a monthly housing allowance of $5,000 until the university’s official presidential residence becomes available.  Johnson has been on the job for just over six months.

The amendment, if approved, would mark the first significant adjustment to Johnson’s compensation package since she took office on August 1, 2025. Her initial contract, approved by the board last June, already included a base salary of $650,000, an annual retention bonus of $150,000, automatic 3 percent annual raises, a performance bonus of up to $86,000, and a car allowance of $14,400.

Notably, that original agreement also allotted $25,000 for moving and relocation expenses. It remains unclear whether this $25,000 payment is in addition to the earlier sum or a reaffirmation of it. University officials did not immediately respond to requests for clarification.

According to the language of the proposed amendment, the $25,000 would be disbursed within 30 days of the amendment’s execution. The monthly housing stipend of $5,000 would begin on March 1, 2026, and continue “until such time that the University’s President’s House becomes available for permanent occupancy.”

The Board of Trustees is expected to review the amendment during its scheduled meeting. The meeting agenda and related documents have been made available to the public in accordance with state sunshine laws.
