The FAMU College of Agriculture and Food Sciences has extended the application deadline for its free AgDiscovery Summer Enrichment Program to June 9, 2026. The program will run from July 19 to 24, 2026.

The AgDiscovery program is more than a summer camp.  It is a strategic pipeline that aims to demystify the agricultural sector for the next generation, showcasing it as a field ripe with high-tech, impactful and diverse career opportunities far beyond traditional farming.

“There’s a critical need to build the talent pool for our nation’s next generation of food, food safety, and natural resource professionals,” said G. Dale Wesson, Ph.D.,  dean of the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences. “AgDiscovery allows us to meet talented young people where they are, place them in our labs and fields alongside experts, and show them the incredible potential of a career path they may have never considered.”

The five-day program is designed for students in grades 8-11th interested in exploring careers in agricultural sciences. Participants will learn from FAMU professors and USDA experts.

Through labs, workshops, and field activities, students will gain hands-on experience in areas such as animal science, biotechnology, veterinary medicine, and agricultural business. The program also provides guidance on college admissions and can help students prepare for early admission to FAMU.

The deadline extension to June 9 is intended to give more families time to apply, particularly those who may have missed earlier announcements. The program is free, with all lodging, meals, and instructional costs covered, removing financial barriers to participation.

“We are looking for curious, motivated students with an interest in science, animals, plants, or the environment,” said Wesson. “No prior agricultural experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn, get your hands dirty, and imagine your future in a vital global industry.”

Again, there is no cost to attend. The program covers housing, meals, and all instructional materials.

Interested individuals must submit their materials by the new deadline of June 9, 2026. More information and the application portal are available here.
