Lewis v. Bryant: The Back Story

We got a couple of emails wanting to know what was behind the Lewis v. Bryant brouhaha at yesterday's BOT meeting. Here's the background. It seems the College of Pharmacy has a million plus dollars in a University account for planning phase II of construction on the New Pharmacy building. The Board voted to move that money at its last meeting on the recommendation of Interim President Bryant and staff to other more immediate facility needs.

Yesterday, Henry Lewis and the new interim dean asked the BOT to reconsider their previous decision because they have accredidation for Pharmacy coming in Novemeber and felt that based upon the accrediting agency placing Howard's Doctor of Pharmacy program on probation because of space and facility problems that it could jeopardize their process. Lewis also noted that they promised and projected a plan back in 1998 and 2001 that New Pharmacy phase 1 and 2 would be
completed by 2006 so it's important that they can show a definite date of construction addressing space and facilities for the November accredidation.
